TP-Link Archer GE230 buying guide: Wi-Fi 7 for gaming

A network upgrade rather than a simple router swap

The TP-Link Archer GE230 is aimed at homes and small workspaces where online gaming, streaming and several connected devices share the same network. It combines dual-band BE3600 Wi-Fi 7, two 2.5G ports and gaming-focused traffic tools.

What to check before buying

1. Client compatibility

TP-Link rates the router at up to 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. These are theoretical wireless rates. Your phone, laptop or adapter must also support the relevant standards to use Wi-Fi 7, MLO and 4K-QAM. Older devices can connect, but they will not gain every Wi-Fi 7 benefit.

2. Internet service and wired equipment

The two 2.5G ports matter when your internet plan, switch, NAS or computer also supports multigigabit networking. A Gigabit-only setup will still work, but it cannot use all of the extra wired headroom.

3. Coverage and future expansion

EasyMesh support gives you a path to add compatible hardware if your home in Tenerife has distant rooms, difficult walls or more than one floor. Real coverage still depends on layout, building materials and router placement.

Verified Archer GE230 highlights

  • Dual-band BE3600 Wi-Fi 7 with MLO and 4K-QAM for compatible clients.
  • Two 2.5G ports for compatible multigigabit wired links.
  • Dedicated gaming port and traffic acceleration to prioritise suitable devices and applications.
  • EasyMesh support for expansion with compatible equipment.
  • TP-Link HomeShield security and parental-control options; some advanced features require a subscription.

Who should choose it?

It suits buyers refreshing their network around recent devices and looking for faster wired connections plus room to extend coverage. If most of your equipment is older or limited to Gigabit, consider how much of the upgrade you can use immediately.
